[Shincheonji Volunteer Group] Shincheonji Gwangju Branch Rolls Up Their Sleeves for Flood Damage Restoration
Hello, this is greenteawannabe.
Last week, heavy rain poured across the nation, causing flood damage in many regions.
In particular, Gwangju was hit by a record-breaking 400mm of rainfall on Thursday, the 17th.
Considering that Gwangju's average annual rainfall is estimated to be around 1,200mm, this means that one-third of the yearly precipitation fell in a single day.
The situation was so severe that roads were submerged, making it difficult for vehicles to operate properly.
Due to the heavy rainfall, Gwangju reported a total of 1,311 cases of property damage, including flooded homes and stores, landslides, and vehicle damage.
In response, the Gwangju Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group stepped in to help neighbors affected by the flood and participated in recovery efforts.
At the request of the Buk-gu Volunteer Center, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangju Branch began volunteer activities.
They focused on households and villages where elderly residents lived and had limited means to carry out restoration work.
When a disaster strikes suddenly, it can be overwhelming to even know where to begin. This is especially true for the elderly, who may lack the physical or financial ability to cope.
In such situations, the helping hands of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group were a great relief to many seniors.
The Gwangju Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group plans to continue focusing its manpower and resources on areas in need of recovery support that are often overlooked, until the end of this month.
The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangju Branch is always ready to extend a helping hand to neighbors in need, and we hope that all damage caused by the recent heavy rains will be restored as soon as possible.
