Hello, this is greenteawannabe.
The weather in Korea these days has been extreme.
Heavy rain and scorching heatwaves keep alternating, causing damages from both floods and heat.
This summer, in particular, the temperatures have been unusually high, making it more important than ever to stay safe and avoid heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke.
In response, from July to August, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangju Branch carried out a “Healthy and Safe Summer” campaign.
Let’s take a closer look at what this campaign was about.
From July 5 to August 17, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangju Branch held a summer campaign that included distributing cold bottled water, delivering health kits, and running heatwave prevention activities.
The campaign, which started at Usan Geulin Park in Gwangju, expanded to various locations such as Gwangju Songjeong Station and U-Square Terminal, thanks to the enthusiastic response and support of local market vendors and citizens.
In particular, during the bottled water sharing campaign, over 10,000 bottles of water were distributed to citizens over the course of two months.
Many citizens expressed their gratitude, saying that the cold water helped them rest and quench their thirst during the exhausting heatwave.
What began as an initiative in the Gwangju branch gradually expanded across the Jeonnam region, reaching cities such as Mokpo, Yeosu, Naju, and Gwangyang.
Instead of enduring the sweltering summer alone, overcoming it together can be a better way forward.
Through this summer campaign by the Shincheonji Volunteer Group, we hope that the citizens of Gwangju and Jeonnam were able to overcome the heatwave in a spirit of sharing and mutual support.
